Just thought someone here would like to know. It is not mine, just saw it looking for a guitar for my son. http://phoenix.craigslist.org/nph/msg/2089126477.html

I bought new bagpipes but never played them and I am moving, just want to get some of my money back paid $175.00
Emphasis mine. I would be willing to bet that $175.00 that the pipes in question are a rosewood set of dubious origin that would be a simple waste of money to anyone who had serious designs on playing the bagpipes. I would urge any potential buyer to exercise extreme caution and get an opinion from someone who knows something about bagpipes.

Bagpipes, like many things on this site, are a case of getting what one pays for. And if you buy a cheap set, the great likelihood is that you're just flushing your money down the toilet and will have to buy a new set in short order. For comparison, Dunbar's cheapest set of Delrin (plastic) pipes retails for about $650 US. Somewhere in that vicinity is the absolute least you could expect to pay for a new set.

Unless you plan to nail them over the fireplace. Then, knock yourself out.
"To the make of a piper go seven years of his own learning, and seven generations before. At the end of his seven years one born to it will stand at the start of knowledge, and leaning a fond ear to the drone he may have parley with old folks of old affairs." - Neil Munro
