Burns Night kilting
I will be attending a local Burns Night towards the end of the month, dress code is'nt too strict, can be formal or casual, what ever suits the person which I think is a good idea as it is only a local Burns Night and sometimes wearing the kilt is more enjoyable when casually dressed.
I am surprised that no Burns Night has been arranged in the Glasgow area where there are more than a few x-markers! Burns Night is now reaching epidemic proportions with almost every pub, club and hotel hosting there own.
So anyone interested in Glasgow Burns Night somewhere?

I noticed that on kiltforum.org, its strange that Robertson is'nt organising a night this month but having 2 in March. I see that one is sold out, not too sure if I would be able to cope with the generous amounts of malt that are drunk at his nights, I love malt but like most people I get greedy on it and the following day, I'm in no man's land, not knowing if I'm coming or going

Ah, the weather...I was hoping to go and visit the one statue of Burns here in Chicago on or near the day so I have to be sure that the snow shoes are tuned up...it's in a large park on the West Side.
As to the consumption of the malts...I'm with Jimmy...just can't take that much whisky these days...don't wanna write no checks that my body can't cash, y'know? I hear that with age comes wisdom but sometimes that seems poor compensation for the other sh*t.

I just wish i had your discipline to just take enough and no more, unfortunately I have a brother who loves malts and when he comes avisiting especially on a night that I wont be working the following day then a bottle of malt can be killed off with ease, I'm just a glutton for punishment.
you know I don't think I have ever worn the kilt while suffering a hangover, somehow its the last thing I would want to wear.
Does anyone think that the kilt is an appropriate dress while recovering from a hangover?

I have noticed a lot of the usual December and January activities are not happening this year "due to the weather" which seems rather strange as the winter hasn't been any worse than normal here, we always get snow, ice and frost in winter, when there is a frost free spell in winter it is because we are getting rain and gales from the south-west.
I usually go to two or three Burns suppers around January but this year I will only be going to my local one.

Its interesting that your invitation gives a choice of dress and that sounds more like the old days! I don't go to Burns nights any more and have not done so for over 30 years, I could not develop a taste for haggis, or Mr Burns, and the events were getting more pretentious as time went on. I don't know if it was a Highland thing, but in my youth no one wore the kilt to a Burns do and we turned up in a sports jacket, or pullover and trousers of some sort, then suits crept in, then black ties turned up, then the kilt and black tie seemed to hi jack the event and the whole shooting match seemed to loose the plot! Well for me anyway. Have fun and have a wee dram for me!
