    Superstitious About A Kilt

Maybe I played too much baseball as a kid....Superstitions abound in baseball...

As an intelligent, aware, adult with a master's degree in professional counseling I know superstitions are dumb, stupid, and silly....

    BUT...

A few years ago I was in a collision while wearing one of my kilts. The insurance company absolved me of any blame.

But there were years of follow up with courts, insurance reps, and those "have you been injured?" lawyers on tv.

Now, when I come to choose which kilt to wear I find myself skipping that kilt - as if something else bad might happen to me if I wore it again.

When I do force myself to wear it I find myself being extra careful and extra aware as if this kilt is somehow bad luck.

I know that is irrational - but the superstition - fear - is there...

Anyone else experience similar silly superstitions about a kilt too.

Or should I just go ahead and check myself into the Senility Acres Booby Hatch?

Had to look it up to make sure I remembered correctly, Ron. The amygdala somehow tags memories in that way, so no it isn't that weird.
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…

Yup not weird at all... You should give it to me... Go on hurry!!
    :-)

A friend of mine had a uncle that was killed by a bull a few months ago. They killed the bull and burned it to ash. Some things associated with tragedy just become tainted in the view of those involved. I say sell it and buy a new one

Bad ju-ju is bad ju-ju anyway you look at it. Rationality does not necessarily play into it, but there may indeed be some subconscious feelings that keep you from reaching for it, and they may be more well founded than you think. That intuition/6th sense folks always talk about mysteriously (no not the movie) is actually based on the unconscious associations of a lot of the elements of any situation or event, 90+% of which we are not consciously aware of, but which are incorporated into that memory and gut feeling.

    No bad ju-ju.

Wow, I wish I had enough kilts to be able to pick and choose which ones were lucky or unlucky. Must be nice!

Forming superstitions is natural to human existence. Every culture does it, and that has to tell us something about the way our brains are wired. Either that, or it is truly a sixth sense that we shouldn't ignore.

Whats weird is I don't even recall what shirt I was wearing, what color kilt hose, what shoes....why does the kilt have to take the rap?

Off to look up the number to the Booby Hatch and turn myself in.

Like you I played years and years of baseball, and we are talking things like get caught stealing a couple of times and suddenly you feel like you have to throw those cleats away because in your mind you couldn't seem to steal a base in them if the catcher dropped the ball three times, or wearing out your favorite batting gloves and wearing a new pair over the worn out pair to keep them around til the end of the season, so if I ever stop and looked at the superstitions that still play in my life i am sure i would be checking myself into some ward with those stylish white coats with the long sleeves LOL... That being said, you have two options either get rid of the cursed item.. or pick a nice simple time to use the item in a guaranteed good situation to swap the bad ju-ju for some good... my choice being the latter, throw a little get together with good friends, wear the kilt surround it with a new good positive memory and let the wreck fade into history.

Ron, my guess is that your shoes, and not the kilt, caused the wreck. You weren't wearing your Zs, were you?

Sounds like the best of all positive vibes to infuse the kilt with.
