Any idea what tartan this is?
Is it even a real modern tartan, or just one made up for the artwork? Bugbear and I have been discussing this, and thought it would be fun to bring it up.

So how 'bout it?

A work of fancy I know so I I'm not sure if it was intentional or not but the Union Flag is upsidedown.

I've seen this too many times to count, but never really looked at the tartan all that closely. I thought Wallace at first, but wasn't sure so I pulled mine from the closet. It's pretty darn close to Wallace, but lacks the yellow stripes and the black stripes are close, but not quite the same. I think it is just the artists interpretation of a tartan, and was probably based on Wallace.

Connel is a very similar tartan, but the yellow is a little more pronounced if I remember correctly. I can think of a few others that look a lot like it, but none that are black and red only.
If you look down by his knees it looks like a slight hint of yellow, but it's not nearly as bold as it should be. On the other hand, since my Wallace is my hiking kilt I can tell you that if it gets dirty enough the yellow does dull. Since our friend here has obviously been busy making life difficult for the English, his kilt is probably at least a little dirty.
BTW, I never really noticed that there is a little hidden imagery in the background. And if I didn't know better, I'd say that was a UFO on the left.

The grass is greener on the other side of the fence...and it's usually greenest right above the septic tank.

What a ghastly painting! What is the purpose of it?
I would have left one word out of the thread's title:
Any idea what this is?

I see no reason to doubt the tartan being Wallace. I can see the yellow stripe on my monitor, though in somewhat muted colors. And the figure seems to have been inspired by a certain movie about William Wallace. :-)
