    MOD Kilt

I've seeing this referenced a lot and I search the FAQ, but to no avail. so what is a MOD Kilt?

Am I right to thimk that it is a Military kilt or is possible it is an ex-hire kilt?

If I'm shopping on-line, let's say on e-bay, what is the best way to search for a good quality quilt?

    MOD kilt

MOD stands for the British Ministry of Defence, and a MOD kilt is either an ex-Army kilt or one made to Ministry of Defence standards. They are heavy weight, 18 and 20 oz wool and have a higher rise than civilian kilts. They are also pleated to the stripe. Some, like the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders, Camerons and Seaforth Highlanders, are box-pleated. Black Watch is knife pleated. They are built to last and unless you put on a good deal of weight, ought to last you for many, MANY years!

MOD is the British Ministry of Defence. The kilts are those worn by the highland regiments and have a 4" rise (most civilian kilts have a 2" rise)
By this I mean that the kilt waist will sit up very high on your body.

As for looking out for a good quality kilt on ebay, make sure it's 100% wool, be sure of your measurements, try to go for 16oz (it's usually 18 -22oz) if it's MOD If your'e really keen on one on ebay ask the vendor a couple of questions to make sure it's what you want.

Chukta you are a faster typer

I wasn't sure so that's why I asked, thanks for answering my questions.

I have an inexpensive Black Watch now and I'm just trying to get an idea of the several ways to go when I decide to get something new. I can't afford a lot and I'll have to save my money to get something different. That's why I'm reading all the different posts to get ideas.

    Thanks for the help!
