    An odd question

    Rocky,
I have some old wool blankets that came from my grandfather's days in the US Navy (World War II). I loved my grandfather dearly and hate to see them just moldering away in a box out in the barn. Would it be possible to turn 60 year old wool blankets into a kilt. How much material would you need (sq feet or yards) and would it be at all possible??? Just thought I'd run it by you and get your feelings on it.

    Thanks,
    Graham

Unfortunately, we don't make kilts from customer supplied cloth. Also, depending on the thickness, it may make a very poor kilt. If you want to use it, put it out as a sofa blanket and remember him fondly when curling up with a good book or movie!

Another option for the blankets is to use them as the core of a quilt. They are a great weight and warmth.

If you want to keep it in a Scottish theme, Army blankets are a great weight for sewing some tams. There are a lot of patterns on the web for these, and I wear mine frequently.

I've got both one of Rockys' traditional kilts and some old wool blankets from back when I was in the service. While the wool in the kilt is heavy, it's not as heavy as those blankets. A kilt made from them would weigh a ton.
I wish I believed in reincarnation. Where's Charles Martel when you need him?
