Haha! A breakthrough!!
I have a distant cousin- read 4 times removed- whom I have become very good friends with over the last several years. She was 13 when we started talking, and just graduated from high school yesterday, so we haven't had a whole lot of face to face time; just online chat time. Over Christmas vacation, she crashed a couple nights here with us. We decided to go see a movie the first night she was here, and naturally, I threw on a kilt and got ready to go. I got to the main level of the house and her eyes went wide! She asked "What are you wearing?!?!" I explained it to her, and she seemed rather... incredulous... about the validity of the kilt as a mans garment, but she dealt with it. I decided as a result to start a gallery of celebrities in kilts on my FaceBook account in order to educate her, which turned into a blog about the history of the kilt, from the 1600's to present, and included pictures of everyone from Teddy Rosevelt to Axle Rose kilted. My cousin has been following it, apparently closer than I thought. Yesterday at her graduation, I got kilted up all nice and semiformal. After it was all over and we were getting pictures, her mom was teasing me about being the only guy there in a skirt. As soon as Vicki's mom said "Skirt" Vicki was all over her, telling her "It's a kilt, mom! And I love it!!" Her mom, of course, was giving me a little good natured teasing, but Vicki showed her true quality. I always knew that girl was smart.
