    red horsehair tassels?

Anyone have a source for either red horsehair or red and black (royal scots dragoon guards) horsehair tassels for a military sporran?

This is what you need to make 3 tassels. 1/2 lb. Of dark mixed tail hair.

You'll also need 1/8 lb of red dyed horse tail hair which can be found at the same place.
3 tassel cones and some thin tubing.

Sorry to the Op for going OT for a moment...but...

NorCalPiper, I sent you an email regarding angora goat hair. I suspect it never got through.

Can you tell me how much angora hair, by weight, you need for a 19th century style long sporran? Including enough for tassels?

And where to find it in "bundles" (not on a hide)? I'd prefer the "long, stringy" look rather than the "bushy" look.

Me too, although I think washing and "conditioning" with a cream rinse, then drying in a straight configuration would address that problem.

And I might add that I did a search on Google and then on Ebay and found a number of people selling sheared angora "locks" by weight. Quite reasonable too. But I didn't want to buy ten ounces, for instance and then find I only needed two.

i suppose that one can dye the locks to a black, for contrasting tassels, with hair dye.?
