    badly pressed pleats ruins effect

Wowza... take a look at this old MOD Seaforth Highlanders kilt being sold on Ebay.

All is well until you see the back!

Who could have, when going to press the pleats, NOT noticed that each pleat is supposed to have a white line going down it?

I've never seen a kilt pressed this badly before.

BTW I believe this kilt was made as a boxpleated kilt but at the bottom of the pleats (in other closeup photos in the Ebay listing) you can see that they've pressed them as knife pleats.

Wow! That must be some kind of crime against kilting! The kilt police need to make an arrest here, I think.

I just wonder whether that kilt could be restored from such butchery... A perfect illustration of why you should baste your pleats before you press your kilt.

I had a Seaforth kilt just like this years ago when I joined my first pipe band, (which was formed by ex-Seaforths). These kilts do indeed have box pleats.
I found that the box pleating didn't require any additional care compared to knife pleating. I did hand wash it once, and the 22oz blanket quality material was a challenge to press.

I most certainly agree that this is the worst case of badly pressed pleats I have seen. What a shame.

Seaforth kilts are indeed box pleated, but whomever pressed the kilt this way apparently did not know that. I wonder if they thought they were "fixing" the pleats?!

What a shame. It's exactly this type of outcome that makes me question having someone else clean/press my kilt (that doesn't do kilts regularly, anyway).

The change from the sewn fell to the hang is so stark that I can't imagine the presser was ignorant of it. I'll bet they simply got tired of having to try and maintain them and decided to 'fix' them none-the-less.

Just out of curiosity can it be rescued?

I have my local dry cleaners do my kilts but we have two catholic schools in my town and the girls uniform is a kilt. So they know how to press them. I have even went to pick my kilt up one time and saw them taking out basting stitches. Best of all they only charge me $7 total cleaned and pressed.

Ouch! Richard, this sort of thread really should come with a "not safe for early morning viewing" warning attached. What a terrible way to start the day, poor kilt.

Just imagine the poor devil whose job it'll be to re-press that properly. Might as well go for the full clean/press at that point.

Aye, that will be a big job, especially if someone wants to put the box pleats back into it! And by box pleats, I assume we are talking about military box pleats and not the style of say, Matt Newsome's box pleats?
