    What is this neckwear called?

I have goggled and yooyooed but cannot find any info.

I have only seen it worn by Andre Rieu. (My wife bought a DVD of his Dublin concert and has several other DVD's of his concerts)
He has many different designs and I like it and would place it one up from a white tie. All the men in his orchestra were wearing white bow ties.

The nearest I can find is a ornate Texas bola.

I agree, although not as heavy duty as the hunting stock.

Although I originally thought that it was one of the variations of an ascot tie, the more I look at it, it appears to be a cravat with the day knot.

Someone with more knowledge may chime in and correct me, but that is my impression.

So its more about formal hunting attire then.

I have been advised that a stock tie is a suitable alternative to a black bow tie for some types of formal THCD.

Well not really. A hunting stock is everyday hunting wear and certainly is heavy duty compared to the one in your picture. Stocks come in various guises and don't all have a hunting connection.Better to think of Beau Brummell, I suspect.

Out of interest I have worn a hunting stock to a kilted evening dress event(I forgot my black tie) and no one noticed! It was appallingly hot around the neck though! The one in your picture would have been rather better for that event.
