Angry Bagipes Banned from Edinburgh Wedding !

My neighbour who is a piper was booked to perform at a church wedding in Edinburgh this weekend. He was astounded when the betrothed couple contacted him a few days prior to the wedding to cancel the booking. They apparently explained to him that they had been told that the church would not allow bagpipes to be played at their entrance. He had no reason to doubt that their reason for cancellation of his services was truthful. It is one of those curious little anecdotes which frustratingly, I only heard second hand. Neither my neighbour nor myself can fathom out what is behind the bagpipes ban, whether its a preference of the particular Church Minister or a problem with neighbours of the Church, certainly it is the first time either of us have heard of bagpipes being banned from an Edinburgh wedding.

    Think you meant "not allow".

Maybe it was a Church of England. No offence to anyone intended.

I would change the venue if it were my planned wedding.

Strange and very unusual. Perhaps you could ask your piper neighbour which church it was. I would be interested to know.

Contact the papers! Get the media involved. Next they will be telling people they can't wear their kilts to weddings.

Interesting. I have read of places here in the States that don't want the pipes played inside for a variety of reasons (church policy, minister's preference, etc.), but that's the first I've seen of a Scottish church banning the pipes all together (even outside).

I'm actually piping (with a mini-band, no less - 4 pipers, snare & bass) at a wedding here in town tomorrow at a Roman Catholic church.

    Wow! Just wow!

I've attended a number of weddings in Edinburgh and most have had a piper pipe the guests in and the bride when she arrives. Definitely needs taking to the press, cannae believe this in Auld Reekie of all places.
