    Elkommando Kilt Gone

It appears that the Mountain Hardwear Elkommando Hiking Kilt has been discontinued without replacement.

Love 'em or no, it's still a loss to the kilt-wearing community.

I wore mine just last Saturday for several hours at night at a camping music festival event. In more or less steady (but warm & humid) rain. I danced to a Zydeco Band, and then played guitar and sang campfire style until the wee hours. The only wet part was the hem and that was no matter. (Yes of course the whisky helped.) Completely comfortable. And the usual playful attention from the lasses. Sigh.

Too bad. They are great kilts for summer knocking around and the trail.

The only ultra-lightweight kilts remaining are the Sport Kilt Hiking Kilts and Specialty Fabric Tropical Prints.

I love mine and I wish they would have made them in other colors.

I was disappointed to discover the Elkommando only to find them unavailable. I thought they would be a comfortable entrance into kilt wearing for my sons.

In this opinion, Stillwater's Thrifty Kilt is low-priced and light weight enough for ultra-casual summer wear, 'only wish it came in a range of solid hues rather than only tartans.

Are we sure this is a permanent discontinuation, rather than a normal seasonal stock fluctuation?

I recall that the predecessor of the Elkommando (the "Mountain Hardwear Hiking Kilt") was only produced for the spring/early summer season, and went out of stock in the fall/winter, only to reappear again in the following spring. Much like most shops only stock shorts for the summer months.

I really like my Elkommando for summer trails and working around the yard. It gets so much wear that I was thinking about ordering another.

Perhaps -- if this was a two-year cycle since there appears to have been no new stock for 2011. We'll see next spring.
