One Memorable Night
Hello all, this past weekend marked my wife's 30th high school reunion here in good ole Charleston, West Virginia. Saturday night was the dinner and dance. At my wife's insistance I wore the kilt. I wore my Clan Hunter tartan kilt, blue shirt with regimental tie, black leather sporran, blue hose, and highly polished black shoes. As we arrived at the dining room arm in arm, I could not help notice a number of people turn to look at us, and many of them smiled and nodded. I then heard a few ladies nearby whisper, "He's wearing a kilt"! As we walked further into the dining room more people turned to look, some with raised eyebrows and others with approving smiles. While being seated and introduced to members at our table, everyone commented on my attire and paid many compliments, especially the ladies. Now the event gets juicy. While eating, I felt a foot rub against my leg, and looking across the table, I noticed a nice looking lady smile and giving me both thumbs up. She then said, "Kilts really rock"! I thought I would would choke on my steak!
As the evening continued, my wife introduced me to a number of her old friends. Many she had not seen for years. Of course, I was asked many questions about my heritage and the kilt. One of my wife's friends asked the universal question, and my wife responded, "My secret"! Minutes later as I was passing a small cluster of ladies, I felt a hand gently placed on my backside. Upon turning, I noticed all the ladies smiling. No words were said. As I stood at the bar after dinner, enjoying a Guiness, of course, I felt a strong hand on my shoulder. As I turned , I looked up to see a towering fellow at leased 6 feet 6 inches in height. I stand 6 feet 2 inches. As I looked up, he smiled a toothy grin and and shook my hand firmly in his. With a thick British accent he introduced himself as Paul, and he continued by stating, "Well done mate, well done. It sure takes balls. Let me buy ya a pint"! Paul not only bought me a pint, he bought me four. One of my wife's girlfriends had married a British businessman and was living here in the states. Over the next three hours, Paul and I became quite good friends. Anyway, not meaning to ramble, it was a great event. I was asked to dance several times with ladies I did not know, and I posed in countless photos. This was indeed, a very memorable night. Ah, the power of the kilt!

I love these stories! Kilting is so much FUN! And kilts are a perfect way to liven up what otherwise may have been a dull gathering - gave everyone something to focus on. No doubt if you'd dressed as the other men it would have been a dull evening.
With highly polished shoes when they ask "the question" you can just respond, "Check me shoes lassie" then see if they look down.....

"I'll have a kilt please, a nice hand sewn tartan, 16 ounce Strome. Oh, and a sporran on the side, with a strap please."
