I was asked to make a casual 5 yd kilt and the guy REALLY prefers the darker Dalgliesh Elliot Modern, an 11 oz lightweight fabric. I've made several kilts of different styles including casual ones I'm 13 and 16 oz but have never used lightweight stuff for a casual 5 yard kilt. Dalgliesh tartan is a bit more tightly woven and denser than the usual but I am still worried about it being too "flippy" and insubstantial. My gut instinct tells me I should sway the guy toward 13 oz varieties (he is set on wool).

Does anybody have personal experience with casual kilts of lightweight wool? Or a suggestion regarding this issue? He lives in a warm part of California but wants a casual rather than box pleated.

Thanks for any recommendations or advice.
