Salado, TX Highland Games Nov 11-13, 2011

It may yet be a bit early, but I hope all the Texas rabble are making plans to attend the 50th Annual Salado Scottish Clan Gathering & Highland Games in Salado, TX
November 11-13, 2011. These games are the oldest in Texas. The website is:

I will be there manning the Clan Keith tent. A great gathering, especially for those in Central Texas. I have been attending that game of a decade.

I'm there running the Clan MacIntyre tent. Conveners, I hope everyone does the Friday Evening Clan Torch Lighting Ceremony.

I'll be manning the Cameron tent all weekend and plan to participate Friday night. I hope we can get some good pictures.

Last time we went was long ago and it was kinda downtown. Then they did it in a pasture across the interstate from town, so we didn't go anymore. Now, I understand they have a new venue. Is it better? If so, we may make plans to try Salado again.

Yes, the new venue is the community building. It is all fensed, there are some good shade trees. The clans are organized around the building with the vendors, games and competitions in the field behind it. My wife says the best part is that the community center bathrooms are open so she doesn't have to use the port-a-johns.

OK, those of you in central Texas I am putting together a kilt night in Waco.
Why should only those in big cities get kilt nights? Oct 15 at Barnett's Pub.

Kilt night is a great idea. I'll need to check the calendar at work but the 15th sounds good. I'm game for the drive to Waco...count me in for now.

Barring a work conflict, we'll be there as well. The Salado games are one of our favorites. I can only hope that the weather this year will be as pleasant as it was last!
