Kilt @ 2010 Observer Ethical Awards

Just stumbled across this kilt pic in a rather interesting context:

The kilted gentleman is apparently Craig Sinclair of Resomation Ltd., who were presented the award for the development of an alkaline hydrolysis process/contraption "that will offer more efficient, cleaner disposal of bodies compared to traditional cremation."

I love that the kilt here is just being worn as normal attire -- though granted for a "special occasion" -- and simply taken as par for the course. Only could have been better if Colin Firth (at right) was sporting one as well.

(I do note that Mr. Sinclair wears both a waistcoat and kilt belt, but we'll forgive him that fashion faux pas.)

Wearing a belt with a waistcoat seems to be quite common here in central Scotland. It is the image promoted by kilt hire companies who invariably seem to include belts with their outfits and many of the online highland outfitters seem to show photographs where a belt is always worn, both with and without a vest

Perhaps because the belt makes the fit of the kilt relatively unimportant. A merchant won't prosper from turning a customer away just because he can't fit him properly.
