    If the Euro fails...

If Greece defaults, Ireland declares bankruptcy, Germany refuses to bail out anybody else, out and the Mafia take over Italy.....

...what will happen to the prices of kilts?

Maybe it's time to stock up to make it through the oncoming Dark Age....

    Well, it depends.

If the collapse of the Euro results in hyperinflation, then the price of kilts will, of course, skyrocket.

If, instead, national economies collapse into depression, then the price of kilts will decline substantially, but nobody will be able to afford them.

    Take your pick.

Personally I would go with food, water and shelter first. Then a loooong piece of tartan for multi-use. Just kidding!

Well, I just ordered my 4th, and maybe last kilt (USA Casual Celtic Nations). So, I am 64, have 4 kilts. I can't possibly wear out all my kilts and cowboy boots (I wear trousers, too...) before I fly west. But the idea of not being able to afford "one more" is depressing.

I'm glad you specified trousers - I was a wee bit worried at the idea of a tank with cowboy boots. I'm also imagining a clip on sgian . . . .

I'm just so glad I built up my kilt collection during better times for the economy.

If all that fails , The market will be flooded with **** Kilts and most real kilt makers will go out of Busness So we need to hope that doe's not Happen.

The Market will allways be supply and demand - we are the only people
demanding Kilts , So the demand will fall on who has the Material and time to make a Kilt.

This would of course depend on how things developed in each country. For us in the US, if hyperinflation happened in the UK, but not so much in the US, then the relative price of a kilt would drop due to exchange rates. Conversely, if a depression hit in the UK, but less so in the US, the price of kilts would increase.

But, given how intertwined the world economy is now, whatever happens in one region will likely happen in other regions, so the relative prices may stay the same.

    Re: If the Euro fails...

I am stocked up with kilts, and have some tartan in reserve to help keep my kiltmaker afloat at least a little bit. The kiltmakers may also keep up their business a bit as we send our kilts to them for tightening up the waists as we all drop a little weight living leaner in the mean time. But I agree, the ripple effects will be closer to tsunami than any of us would prefer to endure.

This is what I was thinking. There could be a very narrow 'window of opportunity' where we in the US could take advantage of wild exchange rate swings, and be able to pull the trigger on a fine kilt at very reasonable prices. I would guess that this window would only be open for a day, at best.

But really, folks, it's not like kilts are something we need to "stock up on". If you have a good kilt, it should last for generations, right? No need to fill up a closet with expensive kilts, waiting for the proverbial balloon to go up. That money is better spent on ammunition, gas masks*, duct tape, MREs, and liquor!

*(Hmm... one wonders which gas mask model is best suited for daywear?)
