A Day at the Races--Breeder's Cup 2011, Churchill Downs, Louisville, KY
A couple of weeks ago I had the pleasure of hosting my brother and his fiance' and some other friends at the two day Breeder's Cup horse races at Louisville's Churchill Downs. I only went kilted to the second day but it turned out to be a grand day, and I even won several of my bets, at least breaking even between my betting and my eating and drinking (and that of my wife).
Wore my olive green/blue box check jacket and vest, pinpoint stripe blue shirt, orange pattern tie, Dutch Friendship Tartan tank, ancient red (orange) hose ith burnt orange flashes, black brogues, black leather/brown xxxxfur semidress sporran with black belts, and navy diced balmoral. Unfortunately my brother popped the photo before I had a chance to hike my kilt back up after it slipped down my gut while climbing the steps to our seats (third tier box in the middle of the home stretch).

Got a lot of looks, too many to count requests for photos, a lot of compliments, and one idiot who said "Irish, huh?" to which I responded, "No, American". Did not make it on the ESPN highlights this year though.

Absolutely stellar. Anyone wearing a kilt would have surely drawn looks and comments, but you did our garment a terrific favor by looking that good! Love the choice of hose.

I wonder if there is any correlation between looking sharp wearing the kilt and having luck at the track...

Up until the day the above photo was taken I had worn a kilt to 3 other days at the track and my luck with my bets on the ponies was not as good those days, although I did win a $100 second place prize in the "Best Dressed Man" contest at the 2010 Breeder's cup first day this same time last year.

The only thing better would be if there were a horse in the picture with you also...
Love the outfit!

Good show, sir. I like your racehorse lapel pin as well.
