I received an email with the following from a kiltmaker/kilt-hire shop in Glasgow, Scotland last week. This is probably compiled from the common woes they often hear of.
"So to make sure that your kilt outfit is ready when you need it, I've enclosed our kilt checklist.
General Tips
- Items are often borrowed by friends or relatives, so the first question to ask is: Do you know where everything is?
- Do you need to hire anything? – We will do our best to supply items at short notice but ideally items should be ordered in advance.
- Is everything clean following its last outing? – It is best to check for any marks in daylight as well.
- Does everything still fit?
Jacket/ waistcoat –Are all the buttons in place?
Kilt –Is the kilt pin still attached?
Sporran – Are all the tassels still attached? Are the chain and strap ok?
Socks and flashes – Check that your socks haven’t shrunk in the wash and check for any holes in them. Do you still have both flashes?
Sgian Dubh – Do you still have it? Is it still in one piece?
Ghillie Brogues –Are the laces ok? Do you still have all the tassels at the end of the laces? Do the brogues need a polish?"
