Cthulu Christening
I was wondering how to christen my R'Lyeh tartan and what to toast with. Scotch seemed natural, but then I thought, well, Lovecraft was American, so maybe bourbon would be a better match. Then, looking around the house I came across this and thought.... This is the one. So very fitting!!

Oh, absolutely! Rum is a classically nautical drink (Yo-ho-ho!!), and this is perfect!

Lovecraft himself was a teetotolar
"As for the matter of drinking -- I have never tasted intoxicating liquor, and never intend to; having a strong aesthetic disgust at anything which blunts or coarsens the delicate natural equipoise of the evolved human intellect and imagination."
H.P. Lovecraft
(In a letter to Zealia Brown Reed, February 13 1928)
However for the depraved and coarse cultists dedicated to bringing about the return of the Great Old Ones or those that oppose them and must constantly fight off the maddness that comes of the glimpses of the dark indescribable truths of the Universe that men were not meant to know...
PERFECT! ![Laughing](http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

I have a bottle of the Kraken on my bar as well. I will raise a glass in celebration.

How is that rum? I am a fan of Mount Gay rum, and as a former crew member on Snake Eyes I know my rum.

Let's see... I was a bartender on a Navy base for 9 years, and have drank rum for many more years than that, I know what rum is. I know what good rum is, and what bad rum is. This isn't horrible rum, in fact it is awfully tasty.
Considering the tartan, I thought that this was the best rum for the purpose. This tartan has a certain "history" behind it, at least on this board and for the literary minded, I was being whimsical, dammit!!!!

While not a spiced rum fan myself (I prefer regular rum), I do love the presentation. It's hard to be a near-black liqueur with a big scary sea-monster on the label.
