Tartan of the Month - January 12: what do you see?
Bliadhna Mhath Ur a h-uile.
Thought I'd start you off with something a little easier, but no less interesting and not without a twist.

Looks like Cameron of Erracht, but perhaps with the Blue and Green fields exchanged. Hard to tell the colours are so dark. Excellent condition save for a small (moth munch?) hole. Twill weave. Vibrant Red and Yellow.

Much, much more to tell.

Would this piece of cloth be residing within the area where you have just spent Christmas?

No (and wasn't it wet and windy!) but that's where it came from, sort of.

The weather that we are still enduring is the worst prolonged spell of grim weather that I can remember. I used to see a lot of that tartan around here at one time.

Looks to be a larger sett, maybe 600 threads, perhaps a Cameron Highlanders sample.

Is it a piece of a uniform or history unknown?

Since I'm up at 1am with nothing to do, I can't resist this thread..
Is that a kilting selvedge on the right?
The threads look thick, would this be a heavy weight tartan?
The weaving also looks uneven. The red bands run thicker and thinner in places. The vertical red stripes on the left almost look separated within the 3 count. So, possibly woven on a home or primitive loom?
And, don't go 'And so?' with me...I have no clue. ;)
