    Two Color Tartans?

Many of you know that I am a member of Clan MacMillan and that I have a kilt in MacMillan Dress Tartan. There is a story that our clan was given permission to have a tartan, by Robert the Bruce, in the colors of his standard for its loyalty and assistance when he was on the run. Even our clan chief doesn't think this story has much validity but he states that it could be possible.

My question is, how many tartans are there around that only consist of two colors? If you have images I would love to see them as well.

I'd go further than your chief - the story is wholly improbable.

There are a good may two coloured tartans, too many to show but as a starter for ten:

    Erskine
    MacRae (not the standard sett)
    MacDonald of Sleat
    Menzies (Green & Black)
    Menzies (Red & White)
    Menzies (Red & Green)
    Montgomerie
    Rae
    Rob Roy

Though the colors don't come through well here the Macdonbald of Sleat is red and green only. This one is by Barb T. Oh, BTW, it's for sale.

The MacQuarrie tartan (the one which is a variation of the MacDonald of Sleat, which Peter mentioned).

The Middleton tartan (which is a color reversal of the above mentioned MacQuarrie).

    Moncrieff

    Scott Black & White

    Cameron Black & Red

Campbell Red (not sanctioned by the chief)

    Lendrum

    There are quite a few...
