Another ID puzzle...
![](http://img826.imageshack.us/img826/5359/cntartan1.jpg)
About to finish DIY kilt #1 made of this. 11-12 oz. PV, listed by the vendor as "Navy" (vendor sells exclusively Canadian tartans, so I assume Canadian Navy, but that's a guess. I found no registration for "Canadian Navy" in STA. Sett is small, about 3 1/4 inches red stripe to red stripe.
I like the pattern and colors and at US $12.50/metre, it was ideal for my "starter" DIY project.
Any ideas?

It is the Royal Canadian Navy Tartan.
This Tartan was designed and woven but was never registered. It is an exclusive thing and only woven by one weaver for one customer.

Wouldn't be the first time I guessed wrong. Not even today.

Doesn't it look similar to Campbell of Cawdor STA Ref 2? Maybe not Cawdor, but one of the Campbell tartans.

I'm sure Steve's right, but it has a "familial" resemblance to Douglas tartan. I'm wondering if it might not have inspired the RCN's tartan?

Oh yeah, no doubt Steve is correct. He was probably the one who designed it and then had it woven for the one customer, himself. Hahaha!
TheBrus,
you hit the nail on the head. It looks very similar to Douglas Black STA Ref 1029.
Somebody ought to.

I got it here.
11-12 oz. PV Canadian province tartans plus RCAF and RCN for $12.50/metre. Very nice fabric at a great price.

My expectations - but doesn't seem "naval" to me...too much green maybe. But I did spend some time with the Royal Canadian Sea Cadet Corps back in 1960....so I'm sniffin' around it....thinkin' about adding it to the wish list....
