    Financial support

I really like the site and would like to know if members can make contributions to
the upkeep of the site and do it online through paypal.

    Thanks

I'm not really sure what you are asking or suggesting flintstone.

There are two things that are needed to keep this forum the great place that it is today.

The first is to insure that this forum stays on-line and available to our members. The costs for hosting, registration of domain names and monthly operating expenses are not great but they are regular, monthly expenses. That money must come from somewhere. Very early on, this forum chose to accept paid advertisements from some of the most respected kilt makers and suppliers as the way to cover the operating expenses.

The best way to insure this forum is able to pay the monthly bills, and stay on-line, is to support those who advertise here.

The second, and more important thing is that which drew you, and all the rest of us, here in the first place This is the active participation of our members.
Our members willingly and freely share their experiences, knowledge and expertise. We laugh together and sometimes we cry together. We are a community. A community with a common interest in the kilt.
In the last 8 years this forum has drawn over 15,000 members to it's door. We have made very close to a million posts.

We all found this site by various means. Some through an internet search, some through the recomendation of friends, and some just stumble upon us. But ask yourself; What keeps you coming back?

When I joined X Marks back in 2004 I immediately felt I had found a home. It did not matter if I wore the kilt everyday or was just curious and thinking about wearing one some day. The members greeted me and made me feel welcome. And then we talked. And that is the reason I have stayed around.

I may not have met our members personally, but these are my friends.

So what can you do to insure this forum stays on-line and remains the active and vibrant community that it is today? Quite simply, participate.

Join in the discussions. Ask questions, offer answers. Share your experiences. Post your photos. When others share their experiences and post their photos, acknowledge their contribution. Offer your help and assistance when you can and thank others for their help and assistance.

If you want an active community then simply be active in your community.

I thank you flintstone, for your offer of financial assistance but I have that covered. That is my job. Your job is to enjoy this forum and be an active part of it.

The only thing I would add to Steve's answer, is that if you really wish to contribute financially to the site, consider supporting some of the site sponsors by clicking through to their websites and making a purchase. Since they pay for advertising space, they would be very happy to know that they are getting something back for their investment. In fact, you could even consider making a purchase from Steve Ashton's own shop -- Freedom Kilts. His financial well-being is what keeps this place running.

And, let them know you saw their advertisement on X Marks! I just ordered a couple of accessories from USA Kilts and when you checkout they've got a box to check asking how you were referred to them.

even if you do not buy but just browse (some might say i stalk some of the sponsors looking for sale and clearance items), i believe online retailers note from what site you clicked from onto their site--so, rather than going straight to um... for example, freedom kilts-come here then click on the banner--and freedom kilts should note that someone came to their site from xmarks--which encourages them to keep advertising here (or keeping the site going).
