question about jacket for wedding

I'm getting married soon, and wanted to know if it would be alright to dress formal (tie, dress sporran, ect.) but no jacket. We're having a ceremony in Russia on the Black Sea and it will be extremely hot. We decided on the kilt as more of a last minute, and it will be difficult to rent a jacket for the period I am gone. I will only be wearing it for the ceremony itself. The only other time I wear my kilt is at highland games, which I dress in day wear. Can I get away without having to spend the extra money on a jacket, or is it a must do thing? What about with a french cuff shirt? While weddings themselves are generally formal, we aren't having ours that formal (no tuxs, ect) more laid back. I tried doing a search but only found results for people attending other peoples weddings.

We have to be careful here as my UK definition of formal is "dress", morning suit for daywear and black bow tie and dinner suit(tux) or white tie and tails for evening wear. The US version of formal appears to mean a suit and tie.

Anyway, a shirt and tie(not a bow tie) will work perfectly in the day in the conditions you are talking about. A Bow tie, if the service is in the evening, would be an option and the great advantage, as you are not being too formal anyway, the tie (of whatever sort) can be removed in a trice if needs be. French cuffs will be fine.

Yeah, it will be in the middle of the day, so I think I will just stick to doing that. Ivory (closer to off-white) french cuff shirt, and black silk tie. Thanks for the advice, Jock Scot.

Black silk tie for a wedding in the daytime is a bit funereal! Wear something bright and festive!

May I suggest going for a silver-grey silk wedding tie. They are easy enough to purchase and come in shades from very light silver to a fairly dark grey. A little less "funeral" and very definately "wedding". It would lighten the whole effect just a touch

I've got a black fur sporran, and black kilt hose so the black tie matches a lot better with the Kennedy tartan. I had tried a light grey tie before, but it didn't give enough contrast with the shirt. I will see if I can find a darker grey tie, and try that.

I know keeping an eye on cost is always a serious thought, but I would not get too wound up with all this matching stuff if I were you. How about some cheerful hose too, like claret,or red,or yellow, or assorted shades of green, or blue, or, or, or..... The same thoughts apply for ties too, greys, reds, blues, greens, yellows with stripes or spots or, or ,or........The occasion really does merit a bit of colour.

Agreed. There will be plenty of time for mourning after the wedding. Hopefully years, even decades of it. Just kidding, of course. Best wishes for your happiness!
