    McPot calling McKettle black

In the press in the past few days is the stushie caused by former First Minister, Jack McConnell criticising our current First Minister, Wee Eck, about his tartan trews he wore last week in Hollywood (not Holyrood) at the release of the film 'Brave'.

Can anyone forget the image of McConnell at few years back at Tartan Week in New York in his pin stripe skirt without sporran (I would not call what he wore a kilt). Sure Wee Eck did not look so grand in his tartan trews but he certainly was not the figure of fun that McConnell was.

Anyway, personally I would never be seen dead in tartan trews, why will people not wear the kilt which suits almost every type of build including Wee Eck's/

PS - The Scottish premiere of Brave is this Saturday in Edinburgh

I thought Jack McConnell looked quite relaxed in his pinstripe kilt with scrunched down hose.
Alex Salmond's tartan trews were rather garish, even though complemented by the matching tie, and tartan trews are not my style, but one must bear in mind that tartan trews are very popular in the south of Scotland and are worn by some of our lowland clan chiefs at ceremonies in preference to the kilt. I believe that it would be great for Scotland's image if Alex Salmond would wear the kilt more often but I guess it is for him to choose to wear what he feels comfortable with.
I think I will have wait a few more weeks before Brave reaches our local cinema here in Hawick.

I think Alex Salmond looked rather dapper in his tartan pantaloons meeself. It's not what I'd have worn but there y'go.

    Picture borrowed. Daily Record

Apparently, Tessa Hartmann, chair of the Scottish Fashion Awards also said the following:
“Now I understand why Alex has never graced the red carpet at the Scottish Fashion Awards, despite our yearly invitations to him. The fashion police would have decked and cuffed him there and then.”

And we all know what the fashion police are like... Viscous they are!! (Sic. Having a thick, sticky consistency..). No sense of style some people. Perhaps they would have preferred him to wear a nice grey suit, thus rendering him invisible.

I believe Mr Salmond has previously stated that the Kilt is not his preferred form of dress so why would he want to wear one, that being the case? And why should he? And why would anyone consider his tartan trousers to be inappropriate?

Salmond one, McConnell nil, I think.

And Hartmann's not even in the game.

    Fashion?? Paaah!

Looking at the pic, Alec, yes McConnell looked relaxed but I still think that he looked ridiculous and was a terrible advert for the kilt

I think tartan trews are a good alternative to a kilt in some circumstances. If it were me, I think I would wear them the right length and not have them draping around my heels.

As for Mr McConnell, well, words fail me. No they don't - nice hose.

    Regards

    Chas

Yikes! I agree. After seeing the photos above, I think the tartan trousers (those don't appear to be actual trews) look much better.

In my book, tartan always trumps Sassenach materials – even if, in this instance, it is a matter of tartan trousers versus something alleged to be a kilt.

Would the chap on the right inspire me to wear the kilt if I didn't already?

    Somehow I think not!
