    Full mask sporran

I was at the Kansas City Renfest today and saw a nice pelt. I am going to give a go at making a full mask sporran. I know that I see a lot of badger or fox but the pelt I found today was Opossum. I have deconstructed an old simple sporran I had (my first) to see how they are built and what I need to do.

I will post pictures of the project as it comes along. Here is the first...the dreaded opossum pelt.

I can't wait to see what the final product will look like; I always enjoy seeing the work of various people. Any method that works as desired is a good method. Just plan things out and write the order of steps down if you think it will help. The pelt itself had a nice layout of color - it will be mighty fine looking when it's done.

    Cheers,
    -Jake

Here is the body of the pelt minus the head

Here is the where the head has been partially mounted to the flap. I decided not to use any head mount or eyes for a bit of what I'd like to think is historical context as I'm not sure if my ancestors would have used those things...who knows...lol

Here is the back of the headless body where I have marked out the front of the sporran.

Here is the pelt cut and mounted to the front of the sporran. After everything dries, then comes the sewing and the gussets. Those pictures will be forthcoming...soon.

The stitching has begun. Decided to use a whip stitch and then a touch of glue to the back of the pelt to hide the stitching.

Very nice. Cant wait to see the process.
What kind of glue do you use to attach the pelt to the leather?

I am using Gorilla glue. It seems to be holding rather well. Just a very thin...very thin layers as that stuff expands a bit when dry and I don't want to make the sporran too bulky.
