Opinions on surprising another kilt wearer?

Ah, the fun things you learn during your day to day interactions with other people. My wife is getting ready for surgery in a few weeks, and today I learned in a round about way that the surgeon is a kilt wearer. We have one more meeting with the surgeon next week, he doesn't know I'm a kilt wearer and was thinking of wearing one to the meeting. My wife thinks this could be a fun meeting. All we know for certain is that he studied in Scotland, was married in a kilt, and own a few from what the staff has told us. What does the rabble think, should I play it safe and go with my traditional Black Watch, or one of my contemporary kilts (my desert camo x-kilt, or the 5.11 kilt)?

I'd imagine that he is very likely a pretty laid back fellow from your description. But nonetheless, I would err on the side of tradition.

I've met numerous people who don't think modern or contemporary kilts are legitimate, (e.g. those who say that Utilikilts are just stylized men's skirts).... whereas I have yet to meet a contemporary/modern kilt wearer who would say that a traditional kilt is just not right.

I would also go traditionally. Err on the side of caution, you don't want to be wrong about this guy and have it go sour on you. I might opt for a more casual look in a traditional kilt.

Given that - a.) he studied in Scotland b.) he got married in a kilt and c.) he owns a few kilts , I would venture a guess that he may relate more to a traditional kilt , of course that's just a guess .

I would go with the Black Watch and along with a casual look for the rest of the attire , hose , shirt no tie ( or polo ) and a day sporran , etc .

Hope all goes well with her surgery .

    Best regards .

Agree 100% - after all, he will be operating inside your wife's body, you don't want to put him off in any way. If it was something like brain surgery, I might be tempted to say, stick to pants.

    Regards

I think I will go with the Black Watch in a more relaxed overall look. The doctor has been really a fun guy to talk with and get to know during office visits so I know the kilt won't be a problem, though I have to agree Chas that if it were brain surgery I wouldn't want to distract him with thoughts about this being the "kilties wife". The next appointment is on the 4th, so I will be sure to let everyone know how it goes.

I would have to agree that the Blackwatch would probably be more appropriate?

Hope all goes well with the surgery.
