    Tartan Design Critique

I have been playing around with my sept tartan - Taylor Ancient. For me the Lochcarron is just a bit too pastely for my taste. So I thought that I would just change one of the colours. Would like to know your opinions and whether it would make a viable option.

Very nice. Looks more like a hunting than an ancient, but beautiful nonetheless.

To me it looks very close to a reproduction colour. In fact, it looks almost exactly like DC Dalgliesh's Reproduction Taylor tartan. Their brown is a tad lighter, but still the same overall effect.

I think you are right Tobus, it is almost exactly the same. I should have checked all the available designs of the Taylor tartan before I spent ages trying to get the balance right, could have saved myself a lot of time.

I suppose that as DC Dalgleish thought of it. My tastes in tartan cant be that wrong.

LOL, I did the same thing with my tartan (Colquhoun) a while back. I came up with about 10 different designs, playing with the shades and thinking that I was onto a really great colour scheme, only to find out that DC Dalgliesh already had it in their standard Reproduction colours, which were perfect. It was exactly what I was looking for. After seeing examples from others who had their tartans made in Reproduction colours, I ordered the cloth and had the kilt made, I couldn't be happier with it. It's a nice, rustic effect that really brings new life to the standard tartan colour schemes. Go for it!

Now I have seen it, I really want it. Its a shame it nearly doubles the price of a kilt. Would there be any issues in having my design woven if there is such a close match from a major mill?
