42nd Band Tartan Reconstruction
I've just had the 42nd Band sett rewoven for a fellow XMarker in Wilsons' colours and with a herringbone selvedge mark.
What do you think?

Very nice. I've often wondered if this particular military tartan might have been the origin of the idea of the Fraser tartan, as they are very similar in design and colors.

Lovely colors and the herringbone selvedge is nice touch. Looks to be a hefty sett size?
Proudly Duncan [maternal], MacDonald and MacDaniel [paternal].

About 10.5 inch sett which was fairly standard at the time.

Beautiful. What are Wilson Colors? I've seen that term before, but how does it compare to "modern", "ancient", or "weathered" colors?

Wilsons were 'the' tartan weavers of the late 18th and 19th centuries. They were the first work with standard colours and had stock dye recipies by 1783. An idea of how their shades compare with modern chemical dyed cloth is discussed here.

Absolutely beautiful. I love the herringbone selvedge.
Will we get to see finished kilts in this as well?

It's a distinct possibility.

Peter,
Is this Dalgleish's Blue #30?
Matt just had some tartan woven for me in the WOB colors, using this particular shade and it looks really, really nice.
Was there an extra surcharge for weaving the herringbone selvedge?

David,
Yes - B30 which is a pretty good match. There was not a surcharge beyond the sdt up fee - this time - but that's because I they owed me a favour. I also had to calculate the setting across the warp in order to ensure that the pattern worked as I wanted.
