    Regimental Ties

I'm not sure what exactly the definition of a regimental tie is, but I was wondering if a tie and tie bar which reflects my military service (US Navy) would be appropriate for semi-dress wear with a Clan kilt?

    Bruce,

I can't speak for any US Military organisation, but in the UK, a Regimental Tie is one that has an official sanction by the Regiment, Corps, Squadron, or Branch of service for wear with civilian dress.

The idea is that the tie should be instantly recognisable as belonging to a particular military group. Although it might not be universally recognised, everyone in that particular group should recognise it. That is why, once adopted, the ties are not changed - they have to be recognisable to all members, current and former.

This is a picture of me wearing my RAF tie. The same style design and colours as it has been since the 1st of April 1918.

There is no reason why you should not wear any tie you want to,

    Regards

    Chas

I discovered an American company that actually has regimental US service branch ties which are sanctioned and registered by the branch for civilian wear.

Thanks for that link BBNC, just checked it out. They have some great items and I am certainly going to be buying the USN tie.

Their USMC Tie is the same as the one I bought from Sgt Grit, a supplier of USMC gear.

And for those not in the military, there's always the official X Marks tie.

not to be contrary, but the U.S.Navy has never officially sanctioned nor endorsed a tie. That one lnked to only has images from the Navy, but I doubt it is the "official" tie of the U.S.Navy.

    Just a point of clarification...

And there is always the hugely popular, as brought to us by Jock Scot, ABF Charity Tie, which is employed by some of the membership as the "UNOFFICIAL" X Marks "Hunting" Tie.

    In Polyester

    And in Silk

Depending on your preference and budget.

I have this morning, emailed the USN, to find out their policy towards regimental ties.

The mission of the Navy Uniform Matters Office is to maintain and interpret the Navy Uniform Regulations. Monitor implementation of uniform policy. Serve as the administrative support to the Navy Uniform Board. "Ask the Master Chief" forum is to facilitate obtaining more precise fleet feedback on uniform policies and to provide guidance to the fleet.
To address your uniform inquiry, please click the following link:

I will let you all know what they say.

    Regards

    Chas
