Here We Are - Discussion on Rule 11 changes
Here we are with this new subforum and freedon to discuss a wider range of topics and I find myself with little to say.
I appreciate the thought and consideration the mods have put into this and the efforth they have made to accomidate. I understand it is not an easy job, I don't envy them and I am sure I could not do a better job.
As a life long hunter I am a bit disturbed by the rules that imply discussion of one of my other passions seems to be regarded in same general leauge as child pornography and can not be discussed even though everything I do is legal and licensed by my government?
However, perhaps I am being petty here as I am unlikely to discuss my hunting on this forum anyway where I understand few would be interested and I might offend a segment of our community. I really try to not offend people generally and don't feel the need to rub my lifestyle in the face of those that it bothers. As I don't hunt kilted it is largly irrelevent but if I did it would be nice to feel I could say somethig about it.

Well, I'm sure the Rule 11 revision, and this new subforum in particular, won't please everyone; but I think they're better than what we had before. I think the latter is a grand experiment, and I hope it works out well. If I wanted to complain, which I don't, my gripe would be different. I don't consider myself a hunter, though in my youth I put plenty of food on the table through hunting & trapping. On the other hand, I'm a warrior/protector by inclination, training, and profession, as well as being an instructor of weapons-based martial arts. And things like kilted concealed carry, defensive/protective tactics with edged weapons and firearms, and the like are not open to discussion here.
But as I said, I am NOT complaining, and what we have now is much better than what we had before.

Not necessarily having much to say at this point is fine... I don't think anyone expects this area to immediately fill up with threads and posts, as if there were some pent-up wall of topics ready to flood the plains at the first opportune moment. I expect, that over time, threads in this section will follow the same trend as anywhere else on this site -- out of a desire or need to answer a specific question, or share something related to one's personal lives, experiences, or weekend excursions, or whatnot.
I can appreciate your comments about hunting and being a lifelong hunter, but I'd say it's more a matter of perspective than anything else. Yes, you may choose to interpret that your passion is "regarded in the same general league as child pornography," but another way to interpret it, is in the same light as Rule #10. It is equally disallowed to seek donations for charity, medical or legal advice, and similar topics. But it would be disingenuous to regard giving money to a charity in the same light as child pornography, saying that they are both equal because neither are allowed. That's probably an argument and path best left alone. The fact of the matter is, simply, that different topics may not be appropriate in every context, but for entirely different reasons.
Anyway, if nothing else, I do hope that this new subsection can at least help satisfy some (if not all) of the desire for some members to discuss weapons as kilt accessories and feel like they can broach the topic without being arbitrarily sanctioned.

Holy Cow! We have a sub-forum for Weapons as Kilt Accessories!
I don't know what to post here yet either... if Rule #11 still stands, then is the only real difference that any discussion of sgians, dirks, basket hilt swords, claymores, etc will be here, instead of on the Accessories or Historical Kilts sub-forum?

Thank you, Mods, for giving this a go.
You can't please everyone all of the time but this is a great step.

I did not expect this outcome from the previous thread/discussion. Well, I am certainly interested to see the topics develop and learn more about the weapons that would have been used.

I hope I was clear in my first post that just because I was not 100% happy because of the position on hunting does not mean I don't appreciate the compromise. Compromise and the evolution of ideas and discussion is how we make progress in civilized society. I have lots of opportunities to discuss hunting on forums dedicated to that purpose. You may see me there, I use the same username. I also have no desire to be confrontational or to offend. I am not going to go out of my way or create a situation intentionally to provoke. It may never come up, as I have said the connections between kilts and hunting are tenuous at best and this is a kilt forum.
However, as my favourite philosopher P. T. Sailorman said "I am what I am and that's all what I am". I am not ashamed of my lifestyle and I won't go out of my way to hide it. If some day I do have something come up which connects kilts and hunting I will probably comment on it in a sensitive way. If another member mentions hunting I may comment or support him. If the moderators feel they need to correct me please do so gently I am not a rebel looking for a cause or a fight.

It's just nice to now have the option of opening such a thread (within the new boundaries) without looking over one's shoulder for fear of divine retribution if a reader should be offended simply because something goes "bang." And for those who are so offended, they now know which area to avoid. Win—Win, sort of.
Thanks all.

While I have a passing interest in all things historical, I'm more interested in the Internet issues involved in this. Big kudos to our moderators for maintaining this little corner of the Internet as a civilized and enlightened spot.
