Cool Interesting idea for chattel on a short hike?

I really hate carrying things; I don't even like having shoulder bags if I can help it. However, I think I may have come up with a solution. Now, I walk around 60-70 miles a week, and I do so carrying a few emergency bits (such as gloves, iPad, water hat, sunglasses, shemagh, etc.).

I took the idea of military belts and puches, and modified a regular fishing bag to come up with this:

The bag is just large enough for a few items such as those listed above, and is big enough to carry an extra layer in (without having to carry stuff in a back pack or in my hand).

I bought a US canvas belt (though would have preferred the more flexible British version), and took two Alice clips with two tiny metal S clips, and then suspended the bag from that. It works great, and can carry a reasonable amount of weight comfortably. Occasionally I wear the sporran on my right hip (as I find it more comfortable to hike with).

    What do you guys think?

Certainly workable, and I think it looks good for the environment you're in as well. But I'd never do it myself. Just as you seem to have a "thing" about stuff hanging from your shoulders, so do I about stuff being carried on just one side or another for any great distance or length of time unless it's something that would violate Rule 11 to mention. I accomplish the same thing with a Camelbak hydration pack that allows me to carry the same sorts of odds and ends as yourself plus a goodly supply of drinking water, all balanced nicely over my hips.

But on you, that looks good!

Much like Dale said, if you are comfortable with it, you like it and you wear it; you'll not hear a word of dissent from me. It does look good on you as well. Not exactly my cuppa, but I'm not the one wearing it either!

Well done! Love the pics too!

As for myself, I also hate carrying things. I've started hiring sherpas to do that for me.

This fellow here, Ang Kami Sherpa was a really talented chap. He was only Rs.900 per day, but it really starts to add up when you add the yak.

    Looks good.

from personal experience, I know those belts can be murder on your hip bones. If I were to wear your rig, I'd move the bag to the back to better distribute the weight to both hips rather than to the off side. But that's me.

Seldom go hiking kilted, however I sometimes use a surplus military pouch on a web belt to carry extra things.

Love creativity! Only concern is are the metal s hooks gonna work on your wool kilt at all. Guessing you're way ahead of me on that.

I might just try that! I dont carry anything too heavy in it - but I get your point about weight distribution. I do wear my leather sporran on the other hip - which tends to balance things out a bit; and that is definitely the heavier of the two!

Actually, I hadn't thought of that..... Hmmmm I certainly wouldn't want to damage that kilt - I have had that one a long time! I will keep an eye on it, and see if there is any discernible wear.
