Cap Badge colour advice needed

Hi Guys,

now that my new Balmoral is on the way I am going to purchase a Macpherson cap badge.
I found a nice one at the well sorted kilt store near my place http://kiltsandmore.com (I overlooked they also carry Mackie Bonnets, now I ordered from Scotland...) but they have different colours.
For an antique or nickeled version isn't in my choice I am between a chrome or silverplated (which I fancy very much).

What do you think? Is a sliver plated to "loud" on the dark Balmoral?

I'd say that silver, while bright, is less "loud" than chrome, with the added bonus that if you think the silver is too bright you can let it tarnish naturally to a slightly more muted tone.

Silver plated is fine, as is silver which is even better, particularly if they are allowed to mellow(without going black) a tad.

Once silver does start to tarnish, you can polish lightly so as not to clean out the grooves. Leaves a bright silver over darker background effect that is beyond beautiful in my eyes!

Chrome versus silver, I would go for the silver, even if it takes some maintenance. Pewter badges are also widely available and can provide a reasonably priced alternative.

I think its worth pointing out that a bonnet badge with cilvilian attire does not need to be "Brigade of Guards" clean, almost the opposite in fact.
