    Grant Hunting Tartan

I'm looking at the tartan's of Clan Grant and I noticed a lot of references to Black Watch also being called Clan Grant Hunting Tartan. I have also read that Black Watch is the Clan Campbell tartan. I was wondering if it's one or the other or both?

I apologize for my ignorance but unfortunately my family who could have answered my questions have passed on.

Indeed the Black Watch and Clan Campbell tartan are one and the same. I cannot speak with any authority about the Clan Grant hunting tartan, but it would not suprise me one bit, if it was the same as the Black Watch/Campbell tartan. No doubt one of our experts will chip in before long.

Me me me I know I know...

Black Watch is Campbell Clan, Grant Hunting and Munro Hunting. They are one and the same, although Campbells tend to wear the lighter ancient colours pleated to sett rather than the darker modern colours.

Reason they are the same is that six Independent companies of Black Watch were formed in 1725. They consisted of three companies of Campbells one of Grants, one of Munros and one of Frasers. These companies were known by the name Am Freacadain Dubh, or Black Watch. With the exception of Frasers, all the other clans adopted the 42nd sett (Government sett) as either their main clan or hunting tartans.

Thanks English Bloke. I read the same pages but have always heard it referred to as Campbell so I wanted to double check with some of the pro's of X-Marks. I dont want to answer any questions I may be asked with bad information.
