what about this PC
While searching through some pictures of Highland dress I came across this PC. I rather like it but what do the rest of you think?

It's hard for me to say whether I'd like it or not without seeing it as part of an ensemble. It could look dashing or could look ridiculous. It seems well made from the photo, with attention paid to detail on lining up the pattern.
It does seem like an odd duck, though. Tartan jackets have a solid place in Highland wear, but usually not for the PC. I have seen some nice tartan doublets, but they seem to offer a completely different look than a PC, especially with accessories that suit a doublet. A PC is usually more of a streamlined look, and the tartan throws it off.
Were it me, I'd prefer a tartan waistcoat with a plain PC, rather than a tartan PC. But then again, I'm not likely to ever be interested in a PC, so it's purely academic.

If it was worn with a kilt of the same tartan, well, there would be an awful lot of tartan.
If it were worn with a kilt of a different tartan, it would be just awful.
But -
If it were worn with a single colour kilt (I am thinking black) then it could look very striking.

Perhaps I am just a "less is more" kind of guy. It just comes across too busy for my personal style.

Yes, I believe Chas has it pretty well defined. A black kilt should work well. Possibly a maroon or very dark red would also work, especially during the holiday season.
If you are too busy to laugh, you are too busy.

Not My Cup of Tea
If you like it, then that's all the matters. As for me, though, it's not my cup of tea. I prefer solid colors.

I am thinking that with a matching kilt, and white tie and white vest, it would be outstanding at a white tie function.
Red vest and black tie with matching kilt would also work.
All this is dependent upon the wearers personality and willingness to stand out from the crowd...

Not for me, I'm afraid. I'd like to have a tartan waistcoat but a tartan jacket is not my thing. Some people do carry them off rather well though. This is the fist tartan PC that I've seen.

Not for me, but at least it's a more subdued tartan (a bright tartan like Buchanan or MacLeod of Lewis would be eye-popping). I think it could probably be paired with a matching kilt (though getting the various vertical stripes to even come close to lining up might be difficult), a black/navy blue kilt (as previously suggested), or perhaps regular tuxedo slacks (maybe cut like trews?).
