    Allow me to introduce myself

I've been lurking on the site for a while so I thought it would be a good time to introduce myself.
The name is Robert Wright and I live in Cloudcroft New Mexico 9000 feet above sea level. I'm the manager/head cook for a small cafe. At the moment I'm saving up to go off to culinary school, when isn't exactly known yet for various reasons that I won't go into.
At the moment I have two kilts, one a 5yard medium weight casual and the other is a 9 yard heavy weight both in the Douglas tartan.
When I was first looking to purchase a kilt I was not aware of any Scottish connection. It was only when I started looking at the available tartans that I found the Douglas connection( my grandmother on my fathers side). At the moment the family geneology has only gone back as far as the Revolutionary War so at the moment I don't know what part of Scotland they came from.
I've been labeled the resident kilt wearer since almost every weekend that I can I'm wearing a kilt. Because I work in a kitchen I will not wear my wool kilts to work but I've been eyeing USAkilts victory kilts as my next kilt purchase. I think two will be enough for work.( Since I paid off my truck I have a fund that I contribute to every week for the purchase of kilts and/or accessories).
Summer is the busiest time of the year for me work wise so I won't be as active as some members but I will make an attempt to keep up .

    Welcome aboard.

I look forward to seeing photos of a New Mexico Cowboy arrayed in Stetson, boots, and kilt.

Unfortunately, kilts severely violate the rule about cowboy clothing. You know the rule that says a cowboy should wear a $100.00 Stetson, a $100.00 pair of boots, and about $1.98 worth of clothes between the two. (Due to inflation, make the hat and boots $300.00 each and the clotes in between $10.00.)

BTW, where is Cloudcroft in relation to Santa Fe and Chama?

    Rob,

Thank you for posting on not lurking anymore I now give you a great big WELCOME!!!

As you know kilts are wonderful and just sharing with others is a lot of fun. I really look forward to hear about your kilting experience.

I am very familiar with Cloudcroft as my father was born there, so it does have great memories for me. I get to New Mexico often on family business, who knows some strange kilted guy will walk into your cafe.

    Again, welcome!

Thanks for the welcome. It's amazing just how many people know about Cloudcroft. If you do get down this way I work at Daves Cafe in The PIne Stump Mall.
Doc, Santa Fe and Chama are way north of where I'm located, I'm only a couple of hours from El Paso TX.
As far as the cowboy wear, sorry, unlike most of the people here I'm not a fugitive from Texas I would rather do my own thing instead of trying to recreate a tiny mountain village(year round pop. 749 people) as a suburb of Dallas/Ft. Worth/Houston/El Paso/Midland/Odessa/San Antonio/Lubbock, etc. Note CLoudcroft is a popular vacation destination for many Texans wishing to escape the summer heat. Unfortunately a very, very, very, small percentage of them do nothing but complain about the lack of whatever they think has to be available for their convenience. Plus I enjoy scandalizing them at every opportunity. Haven't they seen a man in kilt without bagpipes?

As for the tourists, screw 'em! If they don't like what they find, they can go home.

I've never understood why folks bothered to travel if they wanted things to be just like at home. When I travel, I enjoy seeing new things and meeting new people. I'd be mighty disappointed if I traveled and found everything like what I left behind.

Welcome Rob, you'll enjoy this site I'm sure.
You have me worried though, you say you're head cook but haven't been to cooking school
Oh and you might be interested in the recipes for haggis. Who knows you could start a trend.

Glad you're finally in with both feet. Lurking isn't that much fun anyway, right? So now that you've got them wet, think about posting a photo or two sometime! It's another excuse to wear your kilt... not that you need an excuse.
