fabric question. found this while browsing around a sight looking for some material. it is a wool/silk blend for $10.00 (US) a yard 58" wide. anybody have experiance working with any material like this ? Not at all. It looks pretty nice to me
This would actually make a good great kilt. It has that earthy pre-tartan-classification tone to it. As far as the behavior of the fabric goes. You would treat it like pure wool. Wool and silk are very similar in the respect that they are both natural animal fibers that stink when they get wet and drape prettier than any other fabric known to man or machine.
Chris is right-on with the fabric specs. Now as for pleating it... Be careful NOT to go too deep with the pleats, as this will require a jackhammer to get through all the layers of fabric. Also, be VERY careful when you're ironing it. It will take NUMEROUS passes with a warm, then cold, then warm, then cold iron to get the pleats to hold.
