Supplemet to "Wearing the kilt inScotland" (Back to topic)

    Hi Guys, hello Steve,

I hope it is ok I opened this thread but I found someting I thought was worth to be shown...

Mackinnon writes something in his book "Tartan and Highland Dress" i found remarkable and a bit amusing touching this topic. It is on page 35.

Maybe it is meant to wear it all over the world exerpt Scotland

He is talking about clan tartans but for it is a kilt book it may fit.

This and the previous thread on the same subject about the consensus being that Scots don't care about their kilt makes me sad. Why this cultural cringe? I thought New Zealand had exclusive rights to cultural cringe. Maybe when The Vote is taken some will drag out their moth-eaten garb and wear it either to rejoice or to mourn.

Let's be very, very careful that we don't edge into politics or other discord here lest this thread be shut down soon.

I'm going to turn the tables now. I was walking the dogs when a cyclist (Scottish) stopped and commented on having to come to Spain to see a man in a kilt! He wasn't even bothered when I explained I was of Welsh rather than Scottish ancestry, he was just happy to see a man in a kilt!

Yesterday I took the train to Oban and I only saw one other person in the kilt. Today I went shopping in Edinburgh in my kilt and, apart from the pipers in Princes Street, I was on my own! Did that matter - no! Did anyone say anything - no! But there were a number of nods and smiles!

I guess we are an eccentric minority.
