I ran across this one yesterday when cutting the patterns for a rebag!
On the Left you see the cantle opened out, with (very rough) templates for the inner leather "Horseshoe" re-enforcers which the snaps are stitched to.
On the right you can see how wildly OFF position the front and back are from each other.
The studs aren't laid out at all uniformly. There is a 3.5mm variation between the rear upper right and left side placement and a 1.5mm variation in how the front studs are set.
There's also quite a difference in the spread on how the lower studs are set.
I've seen some variation in stud placement before, but never anything this great.
Just something for DiYers to make note of, and one of the big reasons I like to have cantles in-hand when I'm doing rebags.
