I got lucky on ebay
Hi all,
It's not often I lurk on ebay and even less often that I get lucky, but I scored last night by winning this lovely vintage Lovat green Harris Tweed Argyll in my size. I know, I know, I have a lovely Lovat Argyll already, but I couldn't resist.
The winning bid? £51

I haven't received it yet, those are just the photos from the listing.
Looking at the labels, I reckon it dates from the '50s or '60s, but if anyone can date it any better that would be great.

It's a very nice garment, Richard! Classic styling in lovely shades of Harris tweed. The buttons are quite nice also. Wear it well!

Nice find of fortune for you. I too like the buttons, gives the jacket a "Look of the Land" appearance. I have to add that I gathered all the loose buttons in my house and placed them on a 15 inch pizza pan. I may have a replacement handy if needed. Attachment 21246

Wow what a gorgeous jacket! Great find!
As many of you know I'm a big fan of getting quality vintage things on Ebay. I have a lovely vintage green tweed Argyll, black Argyll, Prince Charlie, tweed waistcoat, Edwardian sporran, and ghillies all high quality items picked up cheaply on Ebay. I have to be very patient and do more searching than most due to my large size (50 in jackets, 14 in shoes) but patience pays off. (I see hundreds of kilt jackets in size 38 for every one in size 50.)
Likewise kilts in my size come up rarely. A couple times kilts in exactly my size, in tartans I really like, have come up but for some stupid reason I couldn't 'pull the trigger' and I let them get away
(Kilts in my waist size come up now and then, but nearly always too short. I'm 6'4" and like a 26" length if possible.)

Well done, Richard! That will look smashing with your Macpherson kilt.
Congratulations,
