Will this... errr... Cut it?
I'm considering accessories, for the fun of it.... I'm thinking of a sgian dubh, and I think I have it covered...
I made this from a blade blank and block of ebony a few years back, as a boot knife. The jimping and overall style were heavily sgian-spired at the time.
Here's the knife:

Here's the ugly-yet-functional sheath. Note the coat hanger clips for the shaft of a boot, or the garter on hose.

For fun, here's some detail of the mosaic pins, the jimping I did, and the Damascus pattern:

Finally, here it is in my hose. Again, note the ugly coat hanger clips.

So, now that I've covered all that:
Would you use it as a casual SD?
Full tang vs rat tail tang isn't a sin, is it?
Should I make a new sheath and tuck it further in the garter?
I like it high and clipped so I can draw it and sheath it faster/easier... Even in my boot, I use this knife a lot on steaks and things...

Nice looking knife. Not a classic sgian dubh, but for casual wear, why not! I agree that it would look a bit more like a sgian dubh if you were to insert it another inch or so into your hose.

Though not traditional, I think that makes a fine day wear Sgian. The damascus blade is quite attractive. Nothing wrong with a full tang. Yes, it should be tucked a bit farther into the hose, IMO. The clips are an interesting idea, but hey, we`re not living in the wild west anymore. After seeing the very nice sporran that you made, I`m thinking you could come up with a much neater sheath. Those are really nice looking pins you used on the handle. Very nice knife.

I see no harm with a functioning handle as opposed to a decorative one for a sgian. Some of us keep, wear and use a knife every day for all types of things. May your blade serve you well against T-bones or filets.
Other members may come up with ideas for sheaths that will appeal to you.

Thanks for the input; it's pretty much along the lines of what I was thinking. I'll whip something up tonight, and post photos tonight/tomorrow.

I see nothing wrong with it. If you like it, (obviously, since you made it); not the bling for formal wear, but very nice casual wear accessory.

I've always loved Damascus steel for the unique patterning on each piece. Your 's is beautiful. wear it long and in good health.

I finally got got around to wrapping this one up. My idea here is the big pad of leather will comfortably "stick" to my calf... We'll see how that works out. The idea of a slightly covered blade just tucked in there doesn't seem very secure. Time will tell how this works!
