Ladies & Gentlemen, I have the distinct honour of announcing the second run of the remarkable recreation of the 1790 MacDuff Tartan to be once again woven by Andrew Elliot Weavers of Selkirk. This is a photograph of the original Box Pleated Kilt belonging to The Scottish Tartans Authority that was graciously and most kindly loaned to us for the project. The original Kilt is resting on the newly recreated Tartan still on the loom from the First Run last year. Over the years, the Kilt has been extensively researched by @figheadair ~ who dates it back to 1790, possibly 1785. As such, it is widely acknowledged as one of the oldest known examples of a Box Pleated Tartan Kilt in Scotland.
I have commissioned a second run from Robin Elliot which is scheduled to be off the Loom and back from the Finishers by the end of May. Like the first run, it will be 16oz Worsted Double Width with a minimum finish to most closely approximate the "hard tartan" feel or "hand" of the original 1790 MacDuff Kilt. The Sett is a large 10" x 10". If you only require a single width kilt length of cloth, we will happily split a length for you for half the cost of the double width. There is still time to order some of this truly rare and deeply beautiful Tartan for yourself.
If you have any questions about costs simply send me a personal message. I look forward to hearing from you.
Here is a photo of the finished Tartan...
As good as the photos are, and with all due respect to the photographer, and kiltmaker extraordinaire ~ Paul Henry, the pictures don't fully do the Tartan justice. In the flesh, the colours are beautiful and earthy and subtle beyond belief. Truly unique and like nothing you have ever seen before.
