Tartan ID?
I was recently sent this for ID. It took a while but got it. Anyone want to have a play?

As crazy as this sounds, I'm going to guess Maclean of Duart. I think it's a case of the photo causing the contrast to be much different than it had been in real life.

My other guess would be Christie, but it doesn't seem quite right. Nice large sett, though.

As a crazy guess you're spot on. Well done. As I"m writing this I'm sailing past the castle. Not all are that easy.

Peter , just for my own education ... why does the red block appear darker than the black block in this old photo ?
Thanks , Mike

Mike, there are two thinkgs to consider. First and foremost is the way that different colours and shades appear when rendered in black and whote. Secondly, and this may well be the case in this particular photo, is our assumption that the current colurs and shades are what was used in a particular histoic specimen. In the case of the Duart, Wilsons wove at least three versions, each significantly different, and there may have been others too. So, this particular setting may have been what we would now regard as non-standard.
