G'day from an aussie
G'day all, I'm Andrew and I live in Victoria/ Australia.
I am 33, married with 2 children (8 & 5). Baker by trade. own a black amerikilt. have 2 dogs (foxy/kelpie cross, and pure labrador). looking forward to summer so I can wear my kilt more often. would love to learn how to make my own kilts but finding it very hard to get hold of a book that will teach me. got instructions on the web but doesnt really explain the sewing of the pleats very well. any help would be appreciated.
cheers for now. Andrew

Welcome Andrew. You came to the right place, we have several kilt makers here who will undoubtably steer you in the right direction once they introduce themselves. Until then, look around and make yourself at home.

Well, hello "dan unda" from "up over". Glad you found us. I suspect you've come to right place as we have quite a selection of both professional and amateur kiltmakers on the board. Our #1 poster, Graham, will no doubt be pleased to find another kilt fan in his corner of the world. A quick check of his gallery will prove his kilts are no strangers to the cold weather. When you get a chance, be sure to post a picture in your personal gallery space. 8)
Cheers,
blu

Howdy Andrew. I've recommended this to others and I'll pass it on to you. The best instructions I've seen for making a kilt is the pattern set from www.folkwear.com . It's listed under Old Europe. You get instructions for the kilt and kilted skirt, a Pattern for a Prince Charlie and vest along with knitting instructions for Argyll hose and a ladies vest. It's easy to follow step by step and well worth the money.

Greetings Sir Andrew!
Am I too new of a newbee to welcome a newbee?
I am glad you came over here. The only thing I miss over at the other place is the friendly debates with Lord Bubba ( I like the way that sounds Bubba. You really are quite a noble you know ) and Bob Moore. (Talk to me Bubba ;)
I hope we "see" a lot of each other here and I too want to make my own kilt and hope I can get time over this comming winter.

John, you shouldn't have any problem making a kilt. I've found it really isn't so difficult but it does take patience and care. Go slow, take your time and it'll be a good looking kilt. I did find one thing that helps make it easier. I use Stitch Witchery tape to hold down the pleats from waist to hip. It keeps the pleats from moving at the sewing machine and eliminates the pins. It's applied with a steam iron.
