I have an RRS kilt with rosettes. I'll get some photos and measurements for you.

Here are the photos. The rosettes are made with 1 1/2 inch ribbon. The bow portion is made with 3 pieces of ribbon. The middle portion is tied with the same ribbon "folded" to a size of 7/8 inch. The fold line can be seen near the right side of the center tie ribbon in the close-up photo. The "tails" are 5 1/2 inches long from the center of the rosette to the point of the dovetail. I have marked these measurements on the photos. If you would like photos without the markings or additional information just let me know.

Glad to help. Do you need any measurements, etc. regarding the placement?

Can I ask why, as a civilian, you are interested in attaching a military rank device to your kilt? Typically they are worn by senior NCO's and Officers, as well as pipers. If you've a connection to the Black Watch you can order them from the regimental kit shop.

Ask you may I am part of the WW2 living history scene here in the UK and to that end I'm putting together a kilted Officer impression for the 1st Battalion Black Watch circa 1940

Yes I can get them from both The Black Watch museum and Black Watch Canada shops however the Canadian ones are the wrong pattern and the museum ones are very expensive for what they are.

A very nice closeup photo there, thanks!

When I made Royal Stewart bows for my Black Watch piper's kilt I only had this photo to go on

I guesstimated the width and length.

I used 40mm ribbon from Beresford in the UK.

I also do "living history". Here I am at Fort MacArthur, in my impression of a PM of the Black Watch in khaki drill 1908-1939. The Pipe Major and Pipe Sergeant wear Royal Stewart bows (which the regiment calls "rosettes") on their Royal Stewart kilts.

I also used Beresford ribbon, the wide 70mm stuff, for my drone ribbons.
