Can't Do Burns Supper this Year (2016) Conyers, GA
One and all,
I am afraid that I will not be able to organize our 9th annual Burns Supper in Conyers this coming January. There are just too many demands on my time: New grand daughter scheduled for download, step-son due in from the Army, sister has illnes out of town, getting old! . . .
I do hope that someone else will assume the mantle. The main job is to plan all the speakers and parts, the Celtic Tavern will handle the fare.
Sorry, guys. I just have too many irons in the fire.
Now it's time to step up. LOL

I am very sorry to hear this! Although it is totally understandable. . . Life tends to get in the way, does it not?
I am scheduled to be off the boat this year, so I hope someone does shoulder this supper! From what I can read about years past, TheScot has done a great job- intimidating shoes to fill?

I expected to hear that after my last-minute insertion to slaughter the Address two years in a row, this year you had a better lineup in place since Labor Day. I suppose I couldn't do any worse on a third try, but who can replace your Immortal Memories? Was at the Tavern recently to join Lamar and his GA Tech buddies in lunch and an excursion to Atlanta Cutlery; we brought up again the possibility of a song, possibly Banks and Braes o' Bonny Doon. Oh,well....
Does this mean you might attend if someone else rallies the flag, or no hope? I wouldn't have any idea who to call on.
Maybe a call for volunteers, or a group effort.

Sorry to hear that you won't be able to organize this year. I hope someone can fill your shoes, as I was looking forward to going to my first Burns Supper.

Without getting too Mickey and Judy on y'all, it can happen if people will do a piece. IIRC, the needed parts are somewhat:
Meet and greet ...................................... Immortal Memory
Selkirk Grace ........................................ Toast to the Lassies
Haggis - Entrance w/ pipes .................... Lassies Response
.......... - Address ................................... Songs and Readings
Deil the Yin, Creag, Wareyin, Catharps, any takers? Past participants welcome to repeat. Jim has contacts not on XMarks.
Lamar's friend Charlie is a musician, so maybe... Seems like we've had a couple of songs before, my memory is fuzzy -
giddy from surviving the Address and the accompanying barrage of foodstuffs and silverware.

I'm willing to help, but I've never attended a Burns supper. I have no idea what is done, nor how to do it.

I've been to two. Both times I was asked to do the Address. And lived to tell about it. It's not whether it's the best ever
done, it's just that it gets done. Google is your friend here, there are examples of everything online; varying levels of
competence. You'll be among friends, or friends to be, and like bluegrass or open mics, part of the fun is getting to see
each other grow over time and repeated participation.
