    It's a mistake

It's a mistake. This fool who is dimissing the kilt and the past battle gloriest of these regiments has no idea as to how powerfull their tradition and history are to the motivation of the troops.I am sure this gentilman has never been bloodied let alone gotten his hands dirty.Next he will get rid of the pipes and once all this is lost it can never really be gotten back. The traditon that the Scots have is envied by many modern armies.Look to our own Marines and see how pride in the past motivates them today. I hope this doesn't go through. But I guess it is this way all over those who don't have to do the dirty work or pay the price get to sit back in the safety of their cushy offices and make these decisions. To borrow something from our brothers in the UK (BLOODY B@$$t@rd$) note : please invision shaking fist.

    Amalgamation...

Ironically, this was tried once before, back in the 1960's...two brigades, the Highland & Lowland, were created and the individual battalions of the Scottish Regiments were placed in them...this was to bring the British Army up to the equivalent of the US Army during the Cold War...let's just say it failed miserably.

The regiments were forced to wear a single cap badge, and in the case of the Highland Brigade, it was a Stag's Head on a St. Andrew's Cross -- the Jocks dubbed it "The Crucified Moose", and the cap badges came back quickly.

    Regards,

    T.

I can see the economy of it, however we are talking history here, let alone morale of the troops. If they cannot learn from the 60's I guess that they must learn it again, but at a large expense.

Just my thoughts as brief as they are.

This has been in the Scottish news for a little while now, and it's been very controversial.

I guess money is behind it all, and politics.

All this is at a time when the British government is becoming embroiled in more military commitments. It just doesn't make sense.

Since when does politics make sense? Lunacy pure and unadultrated lunacy.
