Share a time you wish you were kilted
i am not kilted everyday, yet. Do you have a day you wished you had donned the kilt? What's you story? Here's mine: My wife took me out for my birthday. Our two sons are grown and away, so we thought birthday wishes would come via texts and phone calls. At the restaurant we left the bar, and were shown to an empty table for six. My wife said to the maitre d', " I made the reservation for two". He apologized for the confusion, said " please be seated while we fix this" and left.
To our amazement, our sons James and Sean strode across the room with their wives, wearing their Prince Charlie's with the Morrison ancient red, and after much hugging, joined us . It was a great evening. I said to my wife- " Did you know?" She said no they surprised her too.
I wish I had been kilted.

Hasn't happened yet, but my daughter's wedding.
She says, vehemently, "No kilts."
What I think I'm gonna do is wear kilts three days before and two after.
Maybe even the great kilt for the rehearsal dinner.

I was invited to a friend's house for dinner, was contemplating wearing my new kilt (can't remember the name of the tartan), but last minute went in more conventional jeans as it was quite windy and cold out. Though this year I am determined to wear my kilts more often, I just hope for a better summer

My brothers wedding about 20 years ago, all the main participants were kilted but they forgot to tell me.( Being in the RAF, much older than my brother and living hundreds of miles away, I don't know him that well.) had I been informed I would have hired a kilt for the occasion and got into kilts 18 years earlier.
As it happens I bought a PV kilt in that tartan ( Hunting Stewart) a fortnight ago)

I don't have a specific time, but building on what Q said...... I wish i had started earlier. The fun experiences would have been more numerous. If i knew how much the ladies liked kilts while in my teens, i would have never worn pants again.

Time-wise I with others, I wish I'd kilted up earlier, but there are often times when dress code requires me to be looking sharp but I'm not kilted, and I keep turning it over in my head.... "Should have worn my kilt!"
Maybe this year at Easter mass.....

From spring through fall, being kilted both inside and outside - maybe changes from one kilt to another - would have been so much easier and comfortable than dealing with pants. Non-kilted heritage so it took awhile to discover them. What's that saying " Too soon old, too late smart"?

A great question!
It really made me think. What's odd is that, in 40 years of kiltwearing (being a piper, and generally only wearing kilts when I'm playing, and/or when attending specifically Scottish functions) I can't recall ever being non-kilted at a function where the other men were kilted. It must have happened at some point, but I can't think of any such situation.
The other way round has happened many times: I'm out somewhere and a guy will walk up and tell me he wished he had worn his kilt.

Twice that come to mind. The first was my best man's own wedding, which preceded mine, he chose the suits though I think that if he did it over again it would now be in the kilt he wore to mine, to his daughter's (in South Africa) and to a function in Mexico that I recollect.
The other was much less significant, I had gone into the local supermarket just before New Year in my cycling clothes, as I was out on my bike and one of the staff was wearing his kilt whilst stacking shelves. It is so unusual to see anyone else kilted in this part of the world, that I regretted not being in mine to show solidarity. I won't make that mistake again, but as the supermarket is no more, it is highly unlikely the situation will re-occur.
If you are going to do it, do it in a kilt!
