    I puzzled over the thread title for a moment, thinking it was some Belgian or French town, until I realized that you'd created an interesting portmanteau word Bruges + brogues more or less, which might be just the right word for those hybrid shoes.

    BTW the movie In Bruges is very strange.

    You guys are harsh. I wrote the OP on a tiny tablet that's always misspelling things. Besides I'm a former editor, not a practicing one.

    I probably wouldn't go for 'em because the mix of traditional and not-traditional doesn't seem to work to my eye. But hey, if someone likes 'em, what the heck.

    None of that stuff would work here, due to our "winters" being pretty much like our summers.

    I'm pretty much a "traditionalist" I suppose. I really like all the Victorian photos of Highlanders wearing ankle boots, and I could see myself getting those someday.

    These Doc Martens are kinda cool...
